Weigh-in…9…for week 10

Ha! I bet you thought I’d gone quiet because I’d fallen off the wagon and was feeling resistant to coming and admitting it here…

That I was embarrassed to write down that I was having yet another struggle with this stuff and I just wanted to shut down and not think about it.

Oh…actually…that’s exactly what happened.

It’s lucky I’d already shopped and filled the fridge and cupboards with good, healthy stuff. As it was, I had a sort of mixed week. I had days where I was mostly on track and days, like Saturday….which were completely off the rails.

and it wasn’t just a treat meal on Saturday….oh no….it was an all day eat fest, just one form of junk food after another. We spent the day at the movies and I took it as license to relax in the dark with crisps, strawberries, chocolate, diet coke….later there was MacDonalds…you get the picture…..

On Sunday morning I felt as though I had a hangover. Complete with headache.

My skin felt greasy, my hair felt lank, my tongue was dry. Way too much fat and salt.

Then I read an article about Scarlett Johansen, where she talks about having a kale-rich diet and my taste buds leapt. I had an immediate craving for kale. Which just tells me that my body knows what it needs.

I had a bunch of kale in the fridge (Thank you earlier me) so I quickly whizzed up a smoothie made with kale, a green apple, a few strawberries and some cold water. Dark green, sweet with a bitter edge, rehydrating….it was perfect and I felt almost immediately better.

So I’ve been having a glass of smoothie and a banana for breakfast the last few days and eating sensibly the rest of the day,  since that morning. Which is only three days ago but still….

Also, this week I did three good walks and a few incidental ones, two with Natalie, one with Dawn, for a total of 15+km

The upshot is that this week I am 1kg lighter. Hooray. Still going in the right direction 🙂

Would I have lost more if I’d been sensible the whole week instead of just half? Probably, it’s hard to know and at this point I’m just glad I’m still going the right way.

The planning I did last week is what made the difference I think, and the fact that I had to come back here and report 🙂

Once a week isn’t enough though, for me. I’ll be resuming normal service from here on in. Well….every other day at the very least…..

With two days left until the launch of this, my first round of Michelle Bridges 12 Week Body Transformation, I think….I hope…that I’ve covered everything, to set myself up for success.

I’ve bought a diary and put important dates, including exercise times and types into it. I’ve scoped out my local park for distances and places to stretch. I have a space lined up for those rainy days when I’ll be doing indoor exercise and my new sports bras are even now, winging their way across the seas to me from Bravissimo in the UK. (This is because I couldn’t find any in my size locally) I found an app called Mapmywalk, which is absolutely great for telling me how far I’ve walked and how long it’s taken me.

What else?

Oh yes, I made a meal plan and went shopping. Interestingly but no doubt obviously, I spent only two thirds of the money I’d usually have spent and still managed to get everything I need for a family of four for the week.

When we moved into this house, and have I mentioned how much I love this house? We discovered what looked like an unused vegetable garden in the corner of the yard. Since then, between it and the compost bins, have grown what looks like a million cherry tomato plants and a huge vine with big yellow flowers, which I think is probably pumpkin but I’ll wait and see what fruits.

This was very encouraging and I immediately went and bought tools, fertilisers, compost and soil, to re-invigorate the vege patch. Since I haven’t actually ever grown a successful vege garden before, I also did lots of online research and youtube watching and I hope the seeds that arrived in the post today, from Boondie Seeds, are going to find a happy home with us, providing lots of fresh food and further decreasing the shopping bill.

I got a catalogue from Eden Seeds too and it’s gorgeous. Just looking at all the bright, fresh, vitamin laden fruit and veg lifts my heart and makes me smile.

These are in the freezer for the coming week. They’re on special in Coles for $2 a kilo and they’ll be perfect for when I feel like something sugary after dinner.

The deal here is that I’m setting myself up for success. I want this to work. This is me, giving myself the gift of preparation.

Oh and I took before photos……which were every bit as awful as that sounds….BUT….one day soon, I’m going to look back at them with love and thanks.

This is one of my Green Smoothie Jugs, into which I put a combination of greens, fruits and water. Sometimes just the act of buying the ingredients and putting them into the blender is an uplifting experience all by itself. The bright colours, the sharp, clean, fresh smells, together with the knowledge that every bit of this concoction will be fantastic for my body and give me the gift of a brighter morning.

Sounds a bit far-fetched doesn’t it? But it isn’t, I promise. Try it and see.

My usual smoothie is made with greens (kale, baby spinach, parsley, or whatever I have in my fridge), a green apple, an orange, a handful of mint, a chunk of ginger and some cold water. Delicious, healthy and gorgeous.

Not everything I eat is so healthy of course, else I’d not be heavier than I’ve ever been before, which is a rather neat segue into the next part of this post….The Heavy Duty Treadmill…..

After doing some more research and reading some more reviews, it’s come to my attention, that though pretty good value and reasonably sturdy, the treadmill I’d decided to buy may not be up to the job and that the Confidence Fitness MTI Motorised Treadmill might be better suited to my starting weight.

It’s a bit of a lowering reflection but heigh ho, getting healthy and losing weight is the name of the game. It’s a bigger machine but I’d rather have something that will carry me, and the motor’s bigger, which feels strangely comforting.

I’m looking forward to not even thinking about stuff like that. You know…whether something will carry me, or whether it’ll groan and collapse with a sigh and a wheeze….
