For the end of week 6…so, not confusing at all then…. 🙂

I might have mentioned that I haven’t been counting my calories this week, even though I’ve been eating good food. It was sort of an experiment,  to see whether I have a handle on it yet.
The answer is (drum roll please…) that it needs more work. This week I lost a weirdly specific 200g…..
It’s something to add to the mounting weight loss triumph but I can do better.
Okay,  I’m 6 weeks into the 12 week program and I need to reassess, go back to basics I think. The first thing is water intake. I’ve been a bit slack on making sure I have enough and I’ve been feeling thirsty. Good, that’s easy enough.
Next, writing down what I’m eating. I haven’t been doing it since our holiday. I got a bit complacent I think. So, this week everything gets written down.
Lastly, exercise. I’m at the end of a week where I didn’t exercise every day, which is what I had been doing before.  Even a kilometre or two is better than nothing.

I feel utterly wrecked right now but that’s okay because I deserve to. 🙂

I met my sister at the beach this morning and we walked, sometimes holding hands, mostly swinging our arms and talking. I knew we’d walked further than the last time I walked there and the sun was shining but it was nice being there with her, walking together.

For some of the walk, the clouds hovered above us and cut the sunlight to a more bearable glow, which I was very grateful for. Towards the end of the walk, which I discovered later was 5.1km long and took us just over an hour, walking on sand, a strange thing happened. Maybe it’s not as weird as I think it is but my hands started swelling, not so much visibly, though they were very red in the palm, more that they felt puffy and unwieldy, as though the Michelin Man had lent me his hands for a bit. The rings on my fingers were tight and when I flexed them, they felt huge.

It didn’t last long but I think I’ll do some research on why it might have been.

We went for coffee and water afterwards and it was good…relaxed…. but now I’m home and exhausted. By the time I got here, I was aching, despite having downed lots of water and then a snack lunch of chicken and tomatoes.

Thank you again new neighbours, those tomatoes are good!

I’ve had a bath in Epsom Salts, which was magical but I still feel as though I’d like to lie down for, oh about 12 hours….

Excitingly, for me, my new sports bras came too, hooray!

I know there were trillions of things I wanted to write about when I sat down at my desk but it’s time for the school run, so I won’t.

Except to say that it’s weigh-in day tomorrow and even though I’m already reaping lots of positives from this experience, I’m quite curious as to what the numbers will say…

Side Effects of 12WBT (for me)

I’m almost at the end of the first week of 12WBT and I’m noticing some side effects.

The most significant of which is that I can breathe again.

I’ve noticed, without noticing (which takes some effort, I can tell you) that, in the last few years, it’s felt as though I have a belt around my diaphram, tightening almost imperceptibly day by day.

I’ve studiously ignored it, though I felt some distress about not being able to sing properly without taking breaths in the middle of words or warbling when the sound should have been much smoother. I love singing, so that’s been a big secret sadness for me.

It’s also embarrassing to be walking and panting, puffing, unable to hide the fact that I’m struggling. That’s lifting too. So is the little moment of panic I had every time I needed to take a deep breath, always accompanied by those tiny fingers of pain that subsided in a second but reminded me every time, how vulnerable I’d let myself become.

Pain in my hips and lower back when I’m sitting or standing or…anything except lying down, have all but gone too and I can’t even begin to explain what a relief it is.

As I woke up this morning, naturally and at six am (!), I took a breath and it was easy….it just flowed into my lungs without effort. It was so lovely. I’ve been taking deep breaths every now and then ever since, just because I can and it makes me smile. Small things but so good….

I’ve been walking every day, drinking plenty of water and staying within my suggested calorie intake, so I feel good about that too. I haven’t taken the suggested rest days, partly because I’m on a roll and partly because I don’t feel as though I’m pushing myself so hard that I need to rest from it.

Today I’m taking our older boy with me to do laps at the pool, my legs will thank me 🙂
